What can you do with a Law Enforcement Certificate?

Southeast Missouri State University offers you the training and credentials you need to succeed in this rewarding field. The certificate is awarded upon graduating from the SEMO Law Enforcement Academy and passing the Missouri Peace Officer License Exam (MPOLE). Successfully completing these certificate requirements will make you eligible to receive your Class A Missouri Peace Officers License to become a full-time sworn law enforcement officer. You'll also receive 18 hours of degree credit in CJ 495 Law Enforcement Professional Practice.

Already completed police training elsewhere?

Great news! Through Prior Learning Assessment (PLA), the Law Enforcement Certificate also is awarded to any Missouri or out-of-state officer upon:
  • Graduating from a Missouri Basic Law Enforcement Training Center and passing the Missouri Peace Officer License Exam (MPOLE)
or
  • Successfully completing an out-of-state, federal, or military Basic Police School and Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) exam
This means you can continue your training and apply 18 credit hours toward your Criminal Justice bachelor's degree at SEMO. We've waived all PLA fees to count the Law Enforcement Certificate toward your degree and help you reduce your costs even further. And with our fully online degree option, you can complete your degree on your time and from a location convenient for you!
