TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

My teaching philosophy is based on the pedagogical practices of social constructivism and the ecological systems theory. Interactions and relationships with students are based on four principles.

Building a sense of community and shared kinship throughout your college experience.
Valuing the sense of community, collaboration, culture, and individual experiences each student brings to class.

Each student can contribute with anonymity, self-confidence, respect, and kindness.
Through a shared relationship guide and mentor students through their chosen field.
I decided to pursue a degree in early childhood education after working in the field of childcare. Working with young children is were I found my passion for teaching. Getting an education in early childhood education and curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in early childhood education is where I found my power and truth. Teaching is a fine art based on a teacher’s own pedagogical practices.

CREDENTIALS AND CAREER PATH 

Tammy Davis serves as an instructor at Southeast Missouri State University. Her career began as a lecturer and Infant & Toddler Master Teacher at the Child Development Laboratories at Southern Illinois University. She also taught as an Infant & Toddler Master Teacher and served as the Site Director for the Center for Child Studies and the University School for Young Children at Southeast Missouri State University. Davis also served as the faculty coordinator for the University School for Young Children. She is a certified consultant and trainer for Nature Explore Outdoor Classrooms, Arbor Day Foundation. She has presented locally, nationally, and internationally. Her activities at Southeast Missouri State University are teaching child development and early childhood education, research, committee service, and student advising. Davis is currently working on a PhD in Public Health and Education at Southern Illinois University with an interest in gun violence in public education, racism as a public health issue, social justice, and health disparities within the Mississippi Delta Area. She is also obtaining a graduate certificate in gerontology from Southern Illinois University with an interest in intergenerational programs and living.
