Kitt Lavoie is a director, playwright, and filmmaker. He is the only playwright ever to have their work performed on all seven continents during their lifetime. Plays and musical books include Sabbatical (Lincoln Center), Kiki Baby (Theater for the American Musical Prize), The Median Line (Herbert J. Robinson Award for Dramatic Writing), realer than that (winner, Samuel French New Play Festival), And it came to pass in those days… (Collective Press), Good Enough (Vintage Press), and Bank & Trust (Vintage Press). He wrote and produced the acclaimed feature-length documentary Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened, about the cast the legendarily short-lived original Broadway production of Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along (New York Times' Top 10 Films of 2016, Newsweek's Favorite Documentaries of 2016, Slate's Best Films of 2016, The Wrap's Best Films of 2016, Playbill’s Top Five Theater Documentaries, Esquire’s 20 Best Documentaries of All Time).

Also a director, Kitt has staged more than 125 shows in the United States, Europe, and Asia, as well as countless developmental workshops and readings. He works frequently as a member of the directing team for the filming live theatrical events, including the Emmy-winning Sweeney Todd (starring Emma Thompson) and Sondheim! The Birthday Concert, as well as HBO’s Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill (starring Audra McDonald in the role that won her a record sixth Tony award).

Kitt is Executive Producer and Partner at Allright Productions, a commercial film, theater, and television production company he co-founded with Lonny Price and Matt Cowart, and for 22 years was Artistic Director of The CRY HAVOC Company, a New York City not-for-profit theater company dedicated to new play development and artist training. He is Associate Professor of Acting and Directing at The Norwegian Actors College in Oslo, and was a member of the Drama Faculty at the New School University College of Performing Arts in New York City.

Kitt has guest lectured in acting, directing, playwriting, musical theater performance, and career development at universities around the United States. Kitt is a member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society, the Dramatists Guild, and the Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas.
