Tomoaki Nomi joined the Department in Fall 2003. His two broad areas of specialization are International Relations and Comparative Politics. His dissertation was on trade and industrialization policies of Newly Industrialized Countries in East Asia. His current research is on the central-local government relations in Japan. His other research interests include demography, migration, education policy and gender relations among others.
Before coming to Southeast Missouri State University, he taught at Marietta College, Eastern Illinois University, and Western Washington University.
