Southeast's Allied Health, Kinesiology, and Sport Sciences program is for students with a passion for health and wellness. With experiential learning tactics, students will be well-prepared for their occupation in fitness assessment, lifestyle intervention and education, exercise supervisor, and program administration.
Training Labs
Athletic Training Program Laboratory
The Athletic Training Program Laboratory is a 550-square-foot facility located in Parker Hall 112 that is dedicated to the attainment and practice of hands-on practical athletic training skills. The athletic training program maintains spine boards, splints, ultrasound and electrical stimulation combination units, hydrotherapy and thermotherapy areas, taping stations, heat and weather monitoring equipment, first aid and general medical evaluation supplies, tourniquets, and a variety of rehabilitation equipment. These materials are used throughout the athletic training program so the athletic training students can develop foundational hands-on skills before performing clinical rotations. Body Composition Laboratory
The Body Composition Laboratory is a 200-square-foot laboratory located in Parker Hall 106B and contains numerous commercial and laboratory systems for estimation of body composition as well as hydration status. Featuring a state-of-the-art Dual-Energy X-Ray Absorptiometer (DXA) the lab also has various Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) devices, an Ultrasound machine, skinfold calipers. Additionally, hydration status can be measured via a PEN-Wrestling digital refractometer. Research from this laboratory has supported faculty, undergraduate, and graduate student poster and oral presentations at regional and national level conferences with the American College of Sports Medicine and National Strength and Conditioning Association. Current research in this lab is focusing on mode differences in body composition values amongst recreationally active and division I athletes and body composition changes over time (e.g., season, career, etc.) in division I athletes. Human Performance Laboratory
The Human Performance Laboratory is located in the Student Recreation Center. The 1,400-square-foot laboratory is fully equipped with a state-of-the-art metabolic measurement system, 12-lead EKG, treadmills, Monark leg ergometers, a cycling simulator, lactate analyzers, and a collection of body composition measurement devices. The laboratory is used as a classroom for Exercise Testing courses and Exercise Physiology Laboratory sections. Research from this laboratory has supported faculty, undergraduate, and graduate student poster and oral presentations at regional and national level conferences with the American College of Sports Medicine. Current research in this lab is focusing on blood lipid profile changes with high-intensity interval training vs. continuous exercise. Motor Development Laboratory
The newest of the department’s laboratory facilities, the Motor Development Laboratory is used by the Physical Education faculty for teaching and research. This laboratory includes balance and stability assessment equipment, including a stability platform. Additional equipment includes a rotary pursuit for hand-eye assessment. Students in the field provide research to assist with experiential learning tactics in the field.
The faculty of the Department of Allied Health, Kinesiology, and Sport Sciences are among some of the most noted researchers at the University. The faculty also have a long tradition of involving undergraduate and graduate students in research activities.
Research Facilities In accordance with the mission of the University, the facilities used for research are teaching facilities first. Most of these facilities are used for classes or laboratories and research activities.
